Baby powder is an essential for all diaper bags. It is such a common product that most of us don't even think twice about buying it. We will do whatever it takes for our littles to avoid unnecessary pain, but have you ever looked at the ingredients in BP? Ugh! Much to my surprise there are actually quite a few harmful ingredients in these tush savers.
Here are a few ingredients you should avoid:
Talc - lung irritant, carcinogen
Fragrances - catch-all term for any and all added synthetic chemicals
Parabens - neurotoxins linked to skin irritation & hormone disruption
Mineral Oil - prevents skin from quickly eliminating toxins
Proplyene Glycol - carcinogen
And that's just to name a few...A baby's skin is extremely sensitive and with so many diaper changes it can quickly become irritated.
There are some good store bought natural BP's out there such as Burt's Bees, Nature's Baby Organics, and e-raorganics. However, I wanted to find and perfect an easy DIY solution that not only soothed his bum but was also affordable and customizable.
Making my own has been the best bang for my buck. And we all know how expensive these little people can get, you have to save where you can!
I swear when I say that my son has never had a diaper rash. I've never had to use desitin or any other product to soothe any skin irritation. As soon as I see the slightest bit of redness, I apply this BP and it's gone by the next diaper change.
1 Cup Arrowroot Powder
1 Cup Corn Starch
2-3 drops essential oils (1 oil or all)
Mix it together and you have easy, clean, non-toxic baby powder! This will last months and is very easy to apply. I bought these Spice Shakers for easy application and I'm so glad I did! No mess and they're super cute.
Mama, I hope you find relief in knowing that natural is simple.
