Only a little bit late on this one, but what better time to share Jaxon's birth story than now. Most of you know that we are expecting our second little guy any day now and I want to use this brief moment of quiet time to document the best day of my life.
Let's rewind back to July 21, 2017.
It was 10 pm when I started experiencing back labor. It was still 4 days till my due date so we thought it might be just braxton hicks but we decided to go get checked out anyway. When Tucker and I got to the hospital, they checked to see what I was dilated to and at the time I was barely at 1.5. While we were there my contractions were still spread pretty far apart but my back pain was miserable. They monitored Jaxon's heart rate for 3 hours and it wasn't fluctuating as much as they would have hoped, so they decided to admit us at 1am. At this point, they realized that Jax had flipped over and was in the wrong position. They were trying to flip him by pushing on my belly and also had me try different positions with the peanut ball. I do not wish that on anyone. That was a very long 5 hours.
After 5 hours of back labor, I was begging for an epidural.
At 6 am I received my epidural and at this point, we were able to flip Jax back over. Once the epidural kicked in I felt like a new woman. We watched movies, took some naps, laughed and questioned whether or not we were ready to be parents, and visited with family. It took a couple of hours to get to a 5 then a few more to get to a 7.
While waiting a nurse came in and said: "I have some bad news and some good news, what do you want to hear first?" Long story short my OB was in Seattle at the time due to a family emergency, so we had the doctor on call. When I hit 7, it was showtime 30 mins later. Everything worked out in our favor. We were so blessed to have such a great doctor deliver our little guy.
After 16 hours of labor and 19 minutes of pushing our little blonde hair, blue-eyed boy was finally here! And boy did we all cry. He was everything we prayed for and more. Within seconds of his first breath, he brought this overwhelming joy to my life and an abundant amount of love that I had never before experienced. I was in complete awe.
After everyone had left and I had time to just stare at this sweet, sweet soul I was overwhelmed and completely in love with him. He filled holes in my heart that I didn't even know existed. God was so good. I still ask myself how did I get so lucky to be this little boy's mom? God chose me and it still blows me away to this day.
July 22, 2017, was the best day of our lives.
