Quarantine and Chill

The world is uneasy right now and to be honest, this is not what I imagined I would be bringing our second son into. If we could restart and hit refresh on 2020 that would be great. As I'm quickly approaching my due date I have a lot of things going through my mind. Even though the world feels like it is crumbling at times, I know that God is so good and that there will be something positive that will come out of all of this.

It's easy to go down a dark rabbit hole, but I want to keep this post light and positive. Being quarantined is making me focus on the present even more so than usual and showing me that we have everything we need right here. You can find me soaking up quality, one-on-one time with Jax before Levi makes his grand debut.

Regardless of how we are feeling towards the whole situation, we are still parents first. Our littles are looking to us for reassurance and support. They are picking up on everything around us even if they can't fully comprehend it. It's our job to show normalcy and to love them hard, as always.

I wanted to share some toddler approved activities that aren't screen time. These have been keeping us grounded + sane during our time at home. Don't get me wrong Sandlot has been on repeat for the last couple days, but with as much as I love that movie we needed a break. I hope these inspire you guys to do something new or just encourage you to get outside!

Activities for Toddlers:

1. Have a Picnic

This is a new favorite for us. Jaxon's happy place is outside, rain or shine, and since we are staying home as much as possible these days we have been moving our lunches to our backyard. Between the fresh air, vitamin d, and good tunes it quickly turns any bad day around.

What you need:

  • food + drinks

  • blanket

  • music

  • a beautiful day

2. Plant Seeds

My mom was starting her seeds and invited us over to help her out. What better time to teach the littles about growth + new life than right now. We took some flowers and veggies home with us and have been looking after them each day. Definitely the highlight of Jaxon's morning is when he gets to water his seeds.

What you need:

  • seeds

  • soil

  • trays/planters

3. Take Arts + Crafts Outside

When the sun is shining and the birds are chirping, you can find us outside. Painting is therapeutic both for myself and for Jax. I like to watch him and he likes to show me all his wonderful creations. Between collecting rocks and painting, this activity kept him busy for at least an hour. If you have kids, you know that is a total win.

What you need:

  • washable paint

  • paintbrush

  • paper/rocks

  • cup of water

4. Go on a Hike

Hiking is one of our favorite summer activities and one of the best things about this quarantine is that we are still able to go outside and enjoy fresh air. You guys, take advantage of that. Go for a walk or a hike, take your dog, respect the 6ft rule, and find calmness in this storm. It's amazing how time outside can change your perspective and ease your worries.

What you need:

  • yourselves

  • a beautiful day

  • your pup

  • some snacks

5. Play with Chalk

I saw this idea as I was mindlessly scrolling Pinterest and decided to give it a try. It was a hit. Jax thought it was so fun using the tape to create different shapes!

What you need:

  • Chalk

  • Tape if you want to try different designs

6. Play in the Dirt

We like to collect pinecones, rocks, sticks, and look for worms. Jax likes to dig holes in my garden and pretend to eat bugs. Apparently, he thinks my reaction is hilarious. Total boy mom over here, but I absolutely love every second of it.

What you need:

  • Their imagination + your open mind

7. Bake

Sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, more sugar cookies, whatever it is when the weather is crappy outside we like to use that time to bake. I know most stores are sold out of baking essentials, so we have been getting the premade bags of cookie mix that only requires an egg and some oil. This is messy and requires a lot of patience but is such fun.

What you need:

  • a good recipe or premade bag of cookie mix

  • good music

  • sprinkles of course

I hope you enjoy these activities as much as we have!

Remember we are in this whole thing together. Praying everyone stays healthy + safe. Sending all my love to you and your families.
